I am having trouble communicating with people via email...can anybody help me? Here it is...(true story) I wrote: Dear Ms. Floodmonsoon, (names changed to protect the innocent) My name is Archie Goodwin.I'm the new guy at the Lightningbolt (school newspaper).Could you please arrange a meeting with Lt. Amigo, Assistant Director of Security, for me? It's regarding the "Pablo Saintrock incident."He will know what that means.(Burton can inform you of the details, if you're curious.)Thank you.Sincerely, Archie. Please give me a call if there are any problems: (my phone number here) The best time for me, would be 4 PM tomorrow.I get this back: Archie- Sorry I have not gotten back to you sooner; I have been off campus. In the meantime, I spoke w/Lt. Amigo and, as the investigation into the situation you referred to in your email is complete, either he or Director Moronheado will speak with you; you need to call him at (phone number here) to make an appointment. |
In the meantime, I spoke w/Lt. Amigo and, as the investigation into the situation you referred to in your email is complete, either he or Director Moronheado will speak with you; you need to call him at (phone number here) to make an appointment.I do need to say that the "if you're curious" line seems a little off to me. I would not make an effort to assist any journalist to speak with someone here at the College if he/she ?told me I could find out about the subject of the interview by calling someone else if I'm curious.?It's not professional.I look forward to working with you in the future, Margaret Lee Floodmonsoon Great President for Communications The City College of Random City, FU-23 169 Farquad Avenue Elsewhere, NM 10999 TEL:?(phone number here) FAX:?(fax number here) ...So I write back: Well I would not make an effort to speak to someone at the College on behalf of someone who would "not make an effort to assist any journalist to speak with someone here at the College if he/she told me I could find out about the subject of the interview by calling someone else if I'm curious."It's just too complicated a sentence.(I'm a he by the way.)But seriously, I'm sorry. The reason I suggested you talk to Burton about it was that I figured you would see him regularly, what with you two working together at the paper. |
The reason I suggested you talk to Burton about it was that I figured you would see him regularly, what with you two working together at the paper.I also didn't feel like writing the whole story out, with having already done it for Burton. But it's a good story?(I think) and I was hoping you would want to read it, like to show it off is all."If you're curious" seems to me to be something a cool journalist in a Cary Grant movie would say, but maybe it doesn't translate too well via email, and for that I also appologize.Anyway, just generally I am sorry.Anyway, I also e-mailed you my number so you could talk to me about it if you wanted, it's just that Burton gave me your e-mail as opposed to phone number which suggested to me that might be the prefered method of contact, and saying "call me and talk to me about it" might be a little weird if that were the case, which obviously it's not.Anyway I will give you a call and talk to you about it some time, or drop by at your office, and appologize in phone person or actual person or something like that. You get the point.I'm sorry.-Archie. |
